Our president was able to teach over 200 participants at six cyber security focused conferences in an full-day workshop. Participants used Kleared4, our US made and hosted cyber range to analyze malware samples in a safe environment. “The best part about our range is that we provide all users a way to use real-world threats in a remote environment as opposed to learning about these threats in an enclave with malware samples that have been altered. I hear about what other range vendors are doing and cant help but think they are doing a disservice when they remove the awful parts of malware in the spirit of keeping the hosting provider happy. They would rather have users look at fake things they will never encounter in the real world to keep making money while reducing the value and realism of the cyber range” said Jose Fernandez.

CompSec Direct was able to run the workshop during events like BSides and Avengercon. “We spent time making Kleared4 usable, and we had to let industry catch up. It really seemed like a good idea back in 2016 when we first started taking users, and some of them would question why would you give people Internet, or Kali? I’m glad these are more accepted practices today” said Fernandez. This workshop has active development on our Github page. “We actively maintain some key scripts inside this project that allow folks to quickly pull down and triage malware samples” said Fernandez.
